Since the invention of the smart phone, many people thought it would be the perfect solution to the big laptop. The user would now be able to surf the web and check emails on their phone. This trend soon slowed down when many users noticed it is a lot harder to write an email or surf the web on a small 2.5”- 3.5” screen.
The netbook is a miniature version of the laptop and as portable as the smart phone. The netbook is becoming the next big move in the technology world and many companies like Acer, Asus, Dell, Everex, Hp, Lenovo, MSI and Samsung all jumped onto this new trend and put out a newer smaller version of the netbook adding more features such as Bluetooth, a 6 cell battery and more USB ports. Some features missing from the netbook are a CD/DVD player and a standard size keyboard. Due to the netbook's small size, there is no place to insert a CD/DVD player, but many do come with multiple USB ports allowing the user to add on hardware such as, an external hard drive, CD player, mouse and a full size keyboard. The netbook satisfies both the battery life issue and the portability. Depending on the usage of the netbook the battery life is on an average 4 to 5 hours for a 3 cell battery and 6 to 9 hours for a 6 cell battery. They weigh on an average 2 to 3 pounds, that is 3 pounds lighter than a 14” laptop. They come in three different screen sizes 8.9”, 10.1”and 10.2” making it a lot more portable then a 15” laptop.
The operating system for these netbooks is Windows XP or Linux. Windows Vista requires too much memory to run smoothly on a netbook and consumes more battery life. All these netbooks vary from different colors to features and range in price from $299 to $500. If you’re looking for a laptop that is portable with a long battery life, then one of these netbooks would definitely suit you.
You can find one of these netbooks at your local electronic store or online at places like:
